Best family law attorney in vegas
Main Post:
Hi I'm wondering who the best attorneys are for a custody battle? I've heard Shapiro and willick, but the posts mentioning them are a little old. Are any other names of note?
Top Comment: I hired a barracuda. Kelleher and kelleher. Let me tell you, they know what they are doing. I’ve had a two year international divorce. Ask for Neha or the firm owner John kelleher.

Anyone got Car Accident Lawyer Recommendations in Las Vegas?
Main Post:
I got into a car accident today in Vegas, and I was the one who got hit. Talked to my parents about it, and we figured it might be good to talk to a lawyer to see if I’ve actually got a case. I’ve called a few places, but all I’ve gotten are answering services and haven’t heard back yet.
Anyone know of any good car accident lawyers around here? I have never hired a lawyer before, this was my first accident, so I’m looking for someone who can guide me through the process.
Edit: Thanks for the recommendations! A few days ago, I gave https://www.bensonbingham.com/ a call. They were incredibly helpful and took the time to explain everything to me. Turns out I actually had a case for a rear end collision
Top Comment: Well, I can help by saying who I wouldn't recommend, which would be Adam S. Kutner. I'm still injured, and they got their cut because they wouldn't go past the I believe $20k limit you can get from insurance company without suing. And they just send you to one of their chiropractic partners for about a month, who won't actually report you're still in pain after the month is over. And of course you don't get any actual recovery from the chiropractor. Meanwhile the Dr. actually wanted to help but Kutner's group told them no because there wouldn't be a big enough pool of money for the lawyers and the chiropractor, who were charging about 10x more than what their website says. Straight up scammers.
Need a good medical malpractice attorney.
Main Post:
Anybody have experience with a good medical malpractice attorney? Or friends that have? My husband had something bad happen at a LV skilled nursing unit. He wasn't checked or treated for a bad bed sore. It's had major repercussions on his life. Both our lives.

Can anyone recommend a good tenant attorney?
Main Post:
I moved out of Las Vegas 2 years ago and received a legal demand letter from my landlord just accusing me of damages while I lived there. I need to speak to an attorney in Vegas, but all I get from legal-aid is stuff concerning evictions. I wasn't evicted. This would likely be more of a civil litigation/mediation matter. Thanks!
Top Comment: Most landlords are just people and are not corporations etc. Chances are they’re throwing a Hail Mary for some cash and if you truly know you aren’t in the wrong (considering you don’t even live in the state anymore) it’s unlikely that any response will benefit you. Demand letters are just threats in legalese that anyone can write. Worry about it if you get a subpoena or contact from an actual lawyer. This is a civil matter and worst case you take a hit on your credit, assuming the landlord takes the time to report you, which is of no financial gain for them.

In search of civil attorneys in the Las Vegas area
Main Post:
I feel like any place I’ve googled or call they’re all injury attorneys! Any references are appreciated, as I have never done anything like this before and I really want someone who’s familiar with the subject.

You can always go to the Nevada Bar. They have a referral service. nvbar.org if I think. You can search for an attorney who specifically fits your needs and many do pro bono work.
HOA attorney recommendations
Main Post:
Looking for a local attorney familiar with HOA issues and hates HOA's with a passion.
Recommendations?

DISCLAIMER: I am not giving you legal advice specific to your situation. I am an attorney and have successfully battled HOAs in the past. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to represent you, but I can point you in the direction of tools that may help you solve your issue without needing to pay an attorney (although, depending on your situation, you may want to get an attorney anyway). I'm not sure what your issue is, but this stuff is generally good to know for every homeowner who has an HOA, so I'm posting it here.
Nevada Revised Statutes ("NRS") 116 governs HOAs in Nevada and can be found here: NRS 116. Of course you should review your CC&Rs, and there are other administrative rules that can be found in NRS 116A and other areas of Nevada's law, but NRS 116 has a lot of important stuff. Again, I'm not sure what your issue involves and I'm not giving you legal advice but, in my experience, the most helpful tool in the statute is NRS 116.31065, which says, "The rules adopted by an association must be uniformly enforced under the same or similar circumstances against all units' owners. Any rule that is not so uniformly enforced may not be enforced against any unit's owner." The way to check that they are applying rules (usually called CC&Rs) equally is in NRS 116.31175 subsections 5 and 7, which allows a homeowner to request the HOA's Log of Past Infractions, which the HOA is required by law to maintain for 10 years and disclose upon request. Keep in mind, the HOA is required to keep other records and disclose them upon request as well, including meeting minutes from past HOA meetings, so there may be other records that are useful to you depending on your situation.
HOAs are run by people and, in my experience, these people are pretty bad at fairly applying rules, especially when they know and live by many of the people they are supposed to punish. They can also be pretty bad at keeping records. According to this statute, if they're doing something to you, they better be doing it equally to everyone else or not at all and, if you call them out on it, they better have the records to back it up.
In my experience, the best approach for me has been to send the HOA written correspondence (if you know an attorney who is willing to let you use their letterhead, even better) that demands a hearing before the HOA (the CC&Rs usually establish the process for doing this, so I always review those to make sure I'm following procedure) and states how the HOA has violated Nevada law (for example, by providing examples of my neighbors who are doing the same thing I am but who do not seem to be punished for it) and then ask for all the relevant records they are required to keep (for example, the Log of infractions) so I can assess my claim (for example, review the Log to verify that the rule being applied to me has been applied to others). I also like to state that, if my review of the records confirms my suspicions, I am papered to escalate the matter to Civil Court and to the Commission of Common Interest Communities and Condominium Hotels. This is the body that hears complaints by homeowners against HOAs. When they grant me a hearing, I say all the same things, share my evidence, and make the same threats if they are unwilling to drop their claims/fines against me.
I find this approach typically leads to some kind of resolution (maybe I agree to pay a portion of the fines assessed against me in exchange for the HOA dropping their claims) because usually the HOA is not uniformly applying rules and/or they haven't been keeping accurate records. They'll realize it's not worth fighting you and be more willing to settle.
If they still won't back down and it's worth it to you, I would recommend hiring an attorney to pursue your claim in Civil Court and the Commission of Common Interest Communities and Condominium Hotels.
What happened to Paul Powell?
Main Post:
We all love our lawyer commercials /s but I noticed they switched out the Paul Powell guy for a dude with longer hair. After looking at the side by side pics, it actually looks like the same person with a wildly different haircut and facial hair. Did he get really into Guy Fawkes lately or something?
Top Comment: Dude completely rebranded. Went from looking like an absolute goober to a dude who owns a startup tech company that has kombucha on tap
